PARIS, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two French suspects were placed under formal investigation on charges of planning terrorist attacks in France, news channel BFMTV reported on Friday.

A 21-year-old man and a female suspect, 19, were accused of "criminal conspiracy in relation to a criminal terrorist enterprise", according to the report.

The man, already on police radar for radicalization, was arrested on Dec. 22 in Lyon. He was spotted following threats of attacks he broadcasted on social networks.

Last week, in a separate anti-terrorist operation, police arrested the young woman in Paris suspected of having contacts with members of the Islamic State (IS). She told investigators she sought to have weapons to conduct attacks against soldiers.

The two had no apparent link, according to the report.

France has become a major target of frequent terrorist attacks following its military operations in Syria, Iraq and the Sahel region.

In October, French President Emmanuel Macron signed an anti-terrorism law which he said was necessary to muscle security at home to combat high terrorism menace.
