AMMAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will visit Jordan on Jan. 21 as part of a regional tour that also includes Egypt and Israel, the Jordan News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The visit, initially scheduled in December last year, was postponed as protests erupted after the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The vice president will meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan, said the report.

"The Vice President is traveling to the Middle East to reaffirm our commitment to work with the United States' allies in the region to defeat radicalism that threatens future generations," said Alyssa Farah, press secretary of Pence.

Farah added that Pence will also discuss with the Middle East leaders ways to work together to fight terrorism and improve national security.
