TIRANA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The official Tirana hailed Thursday Macedonia's parliament decision to adopt the law on use of languages which allows a wider use of Albanian language across Macedonia.

The President of Albania Ilir Meta said that adoption of this law was an important act not only for Albanians living in Macedonia, but also for the country's European future.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama considered such development as a historical achievement for Albanians, adding that this was an event which made Macedonia more democratic and stronger.

The head of the Albanian opposition, Lulzim Basha considered this voting as an important step forward in the advancement of the Albanian language in Macedonia.

Adoption of the law on the use of languages in Macedonia made the headlines in Albania, being considered as a sensitive issue.

According to Albania's foreign minister Ditmir Bushati, this law guarantees a better and fairer access to public services and makes Albanians more involved in good governing.

"This is a foundation stone for a better and safer Euro-Atlantic future for our neighbor that the Albanians of Macedonia have always supported," Bushati said in a press release.

Macedonian parliament adopted the languages law only with votes of majority since the opposition led by VMRO-DPMNE considered such law as unconstitutional.
