Indonesia expects Saudi Arabia to invest in transport, tourism

JAKARTA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The government of Indonesia has asked investors from Saudi Arabia to park their funds in the sector of transport, tourism and infrastructure as connectivity of the two nations grows, a minister said here Tuesday.

Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said cooperation of the two nations needs to be intensified, particularly in connectivity of the two nations.

The minister revealed that currently the number of Indonesian people travelling to Saudi Arabia has been expanding rapidly.

"Many our citizens travel to Saudi Arabia that leads the number of flight to there rise, so this gives opportunity to investors from Saudi Arabia to invest, have holiday and stay in Indonesia," he said in a statement.

Minister Budi said currently the government expands four tourism destinations beyond Bali Island, namely Lake Toba in North Sumatra province, Yogyakarta province, Mandalika tourism destination in Lokmbok Island, and Labuan Bajo in Flores.

"If they want to invest there, they will certainly get significant return and this will boost connectivity," he added.

The Indonesian government has unveiled a series of reforms to boost investment environment in the country.
