RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Former Rio de Janeiro State Governor Sergio Cabral was transferred to a prison in Parana state on Thursday, following denouncements that he was having privileges in the prison in Rio.

According to the prosecutor's office, Cabral received special food and sources of entertainment such as a TV room with fancy equipment, a gym as well as a library.

After the denouncements, the TV room equipment was donated to a juvenile facility.

The jail is suspected to have been renovated to receive Cabral and other politicians, whose lodgings are much different from the rest of the inmates.

The prosecution also said that Cabral received visitors out of regular visiting hours, paid another inmate to act as his butler and two others as his bodyguards.

In order to prevent contact between Cabral and his accomplices, and avoid undue benefits, Judge Sergio Moro decided on Cabral's transfer.

Cabral embarked for Curitiba, the capital city of Parana state in the afternoon and has already arrived at the new prison, where several corrupt politicians are serving time as well.

Cabral is a defendant in a dozen processes involving corruption, financial and electoral crimes. He is currently serving a 45-year sentence for his first conviction.
