NEW DELHI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- In a shocking incident, a famous woman folk-singer, Mamta Sharma, was found killed with her throat slit in India's northern state of Haryana on Friday, media reports said.

The singer had been missing for past few days.

Incidentally, Mamta's body was found in the Baniyani village in the state's Rohtak district which is also the village of state chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

According to media reports, Mamta had left her home on Sunday morning with one of her associates for an event in the adjoining district's Gohana town. According to her associate, on the way to the event she changed her vehicle. She didn't turn up at the event and went missing, added the associate.

The state of Haryana has hit the headlines for the past few days for a sudden spurt in rape cases. As many as five rape cases have been reported from the state in the past one week. One school girl was allegedly gang raped and subsequently brutally killed earlier this week.
