Asia-Pacific parliamentary forum sets new vison for development

HANOI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The last plenary session of the 26th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) ended here Saturday, setting a new vison for the forum's development.

The meeting on Saturday approved the Hanoi Declaration, a joint communique and 14 resolutions. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, chairwoman of Vietnam's National Assembly, said the declaration defines a new vision for Asia-Pacific parliamentary partnership after 25 years of development.

She told reporters after the last plenary session that the APPF-26 called for developed nations help developing countries implement the United Nations' agenda on sustainable development toward 2030 and the Paris Agreement.

The 14 resolutions covers a wide range of sectors such as gender equality, economic growth, free trade and joint actions on climate change response.

Also on Saturday, the APPF members adopted amendments to the APPF Rule of Procedure relating to making the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians an APPF permanent feature.

Cambodia will host APPF-27 in January 2019.
