DUBLIN, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- One man was shot dead in the Irish capital Dublin on Saturday afternoon, reported local media RTE.

The identity of the man killed is not immediately known.

The report quoted police as saying that initial investigation showed that the incident could be related to a feud between two local criminal gangs.

According to the report, the firing incident took place at about 3:00 p.m. local time when some unknown gunmen opened fire at the man sitting in a car at the western edge of the city.

Two other men were with the victim when the firing occurred, but none of them got injured in the attack, said eyewitnesses.

Police and rescue team rushed to the site shortly after the incident was reported. Police have cordoned off the attack site and a search operation has been conducted in the surrounding areas.

A car was found burnt out a short time later in a nearby industrial estate, said police, adding that the exact nature of the attack is still under investigation.
