RABAT, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Angola edged past title holders Cameroon 1-0 on Saturday at the African Nations Championship in the Moroccan city of Agadir.

Ricardo Estevao's goal from penalty kick in the 30th minute was enough for Angola to secure victory over the Indomitable Lions in Group D and boost their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.

After a disappointing first half, the Cameroonians doubled efforts for returning in the score, but poor finishing and bad crossing made their efforts useless.

They made some nine attempts and only three were on target.

However, well-organized Angola had more chances to extend their lead with five attempts on target.

After their second loss, Cameroon are very close from leaving the competition early.

Later on Saturday, Congo Brazzaville beat Burkina Faso 2-0 with a game to spare to secure their quarterfinal berth.

In the last round of Group D matches on Wednesday, Angola will face Congo Brazzaville in Agadir with a draw giving them the second ticket to quarterfinals regardless of the other game between Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

The tournament, which is for African footballers based in their own domestic leagues, features 16 teams in four groups.
