Uganda's female weightlifter Kasuubo qualifies for 2018 Commonwealth Games

KASUBI, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has confirmed Uganda's female lifter Irene Kasuubo will compete at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

"This is a very great news because I have been working hard and praying that my performance of last year qualifies me for the Commonwealth Games," Kasuubo told Xinhua during her training session in Kasubi, 8km from Kampala town.

Kasuubo will compete in under the 63kg category.

Julius Ssekitoleko (56kg), Hakim Musoke Ssempereza (69kg), Kalidi Batuusa (94kg) and Saad Maganda (85kg) qualified for the men's weightlifting competitions of the Games on April 4-15 in Australia.

Uganda is expected to send another 67 athletes to compete in rugby, netball,track-and-field, boxing, badminton, squash, swimming, shooting and table-tennis. Enditem
