Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's rally after gov't shutdown ends

TOKYO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as Wall Street rallied overnight as the passage of a stopgap funding bill brought a welcome end to a partial shutdown of the U.S. government.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 126.74 points, or 0.53 percent, from Monday to 23,943.07.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.33 points, or 0.49 percent, to 1,901.25.

Real estate, precision instrument and food-related issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
