ACCRA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Ten people are feared dead while dozens injured in a horrific road crash late Thursday at Teacher-Mantey near Nsawam, 37km North-East of the Ghanaian capital, local media has reported.

local news website Myjoyonline.com quoted eye witnesses who said the accident occurred when an articulated truck ran into a VIP branded bus traveling from Accra to Kumasi, about 270 km north of the capital.

Photographs available so far show the wrecked VIP branded bus, with seemingly lifeless bodies spread around with eye witnesses looking on.

Other eye witnesses said the bus driver may have lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to overtake another vehicle making the bus skid off the road and crashing into the bushes.

Although the specific number of the dead has not been confirmed, the bodies had been deposited at Nsawam hospital morgue while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were spotted on the scene trying to rescue any passengers trapped in the wreckage.
