RABAT, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's King Mohammed VI called on Friday for accelerating the kingdom's ambitious strategy aiming at producing 42 percent of its electrical power from renewable energy by 2020 and 52 percent by 2030.

The call was made during a working session chaired by the king at the royal palace in Casablanca, which was devoted to the examination of the implementation of renewable energy projects in the kingdom, as well as the evaluation of their different phases, according to a statement from the king's office.

The king highlighted that these projects aim to consolidate the leadership of the kingdom on the continental and regional scales and to make renewable energy a real lever of South-South cooperation and a vector of development of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa with a proven renewable potential.

During the working session, Mustapha Bakkoury, the managing director of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, presented a review of achievements by the end of 2017 as well as the various projects planned for the 2018-2020 period.

The presentation focused on measures to speed up the implementation of synergistic approaches of the actors in the national energy institutional system after the completion of the reform of the legislative and regulatory framework.
