BOGOTA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian police on Sunday reported a new bombing attack against the Santa Rosa police station in the northern department of Bolivar, leaving two dead and one injured.

The incident came a day after a bombing attack against a police station in the city of Barranquilla, leaving five officers dead and 41 injured.

In a statement, the police confirmed the attack occurred around midnight, and that an investigation had been opened.

"The national police condemns this act of barbarism and expresses all its solidarity with the families of the valiant policemen. The institution has sent to the area a multidisciplinary investigation team and, in coordination with the armed forces, is advancing with the identification of those responsible for the attack," read the statement.

In Barranquilla, one man arrested for Saturday's attack was identified as Cristian Camilo Bellon Galindo, 31. According to the police, he is facing charges of aggravated terrorism, use of explosives, five counts of aggravated homicide and 41 counts of attempted homicide.

The prosecutor-general, Nestor Humberto Martinez, said there was "absolute certainty" that Bellon Galindo had carried out the terrorist attack and that an investigation was underway to identify any accomplices.
