BERLIN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Wolfsburg have snapped up striker Admir Mehmedi from league rivals Bayer Leverkusen, both Bundesliga clubs confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.

The "Wolves" reinforce their offense with the signing of the 26-year-old Swiss striker, who has penned a contract until June 2022.

"Admir Mehmedi fits perfectly into our requirement profile. He is a versatile striker who knows the Bundesliga and can help us immediately. He has proven his qualities nationally and internationally over the years," Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe said.

The Swiss international knows the Bundesliga very well as he played for Freiburg for two years before he joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 where he has scored seven goals in 62 appearances.

"Wolfsburg is a very renowned club and enjoys a very, very good reputation in my home country. I am very happy that the transfer has worked out and I hope to be able to do my part to ensure a successful second half of the campaign for Wolfsburg," Mehmedi said.

The "Wolves" are currently 13th on the table. They play newly promoted Stuttgart on Saturday.
