BRUSSELS, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Angelina Jolie, United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) special envoy, visited the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday.

While welcoming Jolie's visit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO has the responsibility to be a leading protector of women's rights.

Stoltenberg praised Jolie's "strong voice" and "great leadership for empowering women and the fight against sexual violence," according to a NATO's press release.

In a joint meeting of the North Atlantic Council and the Military Committee, Jolie and Allied representatives focused on NATO's efforts to prevent sexual and gender-based violence.

"Special Envoy Jolie and I have decided to work together, focusing on three points: training, monitoring and reporting, and awareness," Stoltenberg said at the press conference following the meeting.

He noted that NATO will work to strengthen existing training on combating sexual violence, and the Alliance will work to be faster and more systematic in ways to bring perpetrators to justice.
