1 soldier killed, 5 others injured during raid on suspects in north Lebanon

BEIRUT, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- One Lebanese army soldier was killed and 5 others including an officer were injured during a raid the army launched late Sunday to arrest suspects in the northern port city of Tripoli, according to medical and security sources.

A medical source confirmed to Xinhua that an army soldier succumbed to his injuries late Saturday in hospital after being injured during a raid on suspects in Tripoli.

For its part, a security source who refused to reveal its name told Xinhua that an army unit was under fire when it tried to apprehend wanted suspects belonging to terrorist organizations.

It added "the army reinforced it positions in Tripoli due to the tense situation that followed the raid."
