BEIJING, Feb.7 (Xinhua) -- Although suffering from eye diseases, Chinese boxing star Zou Shiming said on Wednesday that he is not ready to retire.

"I'm cooperating with doctors to get some treatment, and I will never give up. If my body allows it, I think I can fight in the ring," the 36-year-old Zou said. He also said that it's "difficult to say goodbye" and that he has decided not to retire.

Zou won gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games and held the WBO flyweight title from 2016 to 2017. Zou was diagnosed with serious eye diseases last December and has required long-term treatment.

Zou was defeated by Japan's Sho Kimura, and lost the WBO flyweight title in July 2017.

Zou was voted in as a member of the Executive Committee of the Chinese Boxing Federation on Wednesday.

"I have accepted the advice of medical experts on my recovery, and I can do some things for Chinese boxing as an Executive Committee member." Zou said.
