Team welcome ceremony for Hong Kong, China held in PyeongChang Olympic Village

PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The team welcome ceremony of Hong Kong, China delegation to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games was held in the Olympic Village here on Thursday.

Village mayor Seung-min Ryu officiated the ceremony in the presence of Timothy T.T. FOK, president of the sports federation & Olympic committee of Hong Kong, China, and chef de mission Tony Yue Kwok Leung.

Ryu and Yue exchanged souvenirs representing the friendship between PyeongChang and Hong Kong, while the ceremony ended with Korean cultural music and K-Pop dance in a carnival atmosphere.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will be held on February 9 at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium. Arabella NG, the sole athlete representing Hong Kong, China was assigned as the flag bearer.

The 16-year-old girl will compete in both slalom and giant slalom in PyeongChang.

Hong Kong of China has never won a medal at the Winter Olympics.

The 2018 PyongChang Winter Olympic Games will run from February 9-25.
