SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO) were killed and four others including daughter of a slain officer were wounded Saturday in a militant attack on a highly guarded military camp in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunmen, believed to be fidayeen (suicide attackers) militants, indiscriminately used gunfire while making their entry inside the camp at Sunjawan in Jammu, the winter capital city of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Two JCOs were killed and three troopers including an officer of the rank of colonel were wounded in today's fidayeen attack," a local minister Abdul Rehman Veeri said. "Besides this daughter of one slain army officer is also wounded."

Officials said the firing inside the fortified camp was underway and army has pressed in helicopters to locate the positions of militants.

Officials suspect four to five militants have managed to enter the highly guarded camp to take on army personnel present there.

"Following their entry, the militants have taken refuge in the area that house family quarters," an official said.

So far no militant outfit has claimed the responsibility of the attack.

In December last year a similar attack on highly fortified paramilitary camp in the region ended with the killing of five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and three militants.

A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
