SOFIA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) foreign affairs and security chief Federica Mogherini said here Thursday she was satisfied by the unity that EU member states had shown in foreign and security policy.
"If there is one field where the EU and its member states are speaking with one voice, are singing the same song, and most importantly, are acting together, it is foreign and security policy," Mogherini said.
The real issue was that the world has not been moving in the right direction, Mogherini said when answering a question on EU unity at an informal meeting of the EU foreign ministers.
"We see a proliferation of conflicts," she said adding that a solution has not been found for many of them.
"We are doing our part, and let me say: if the EU were not there with its humanitarian, development, political, diplomatic, security work, the situation in many parts of the world would be much, much worse," Mogherini said.
"I know that this is not satisfactory, but I have to say that I am satisfied with the level of unity that member states are proving in the field of foreign and security policy," she said, while adding that internal issues were another story.
The two-day informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, which kicked off on Thursday, is part of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Developments in Syria, the Western Balkans and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will be discussed during the event.
