LONDON, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three days of celebrations to mark the Year of the Dog kicked off Friday in Liverpool, home to Europe's oldest Chinatown.

A festival of events started Friday with crowds expected Friday night to watch as brand new projections light up Chinatown in a special show called "Jingwei's Legacy".

The story follows the story of Jingwei and the arrival of Chinese communities in Liverpool and across Britain. The message focuses on cultural diversity and spreading the message of hope that communities can live together harmoniously regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs.

On Sunday tens of thousands of visitors will converge on Chinatown for day and night celebrations, with arts and cultural events, featuring fire crackers, and a Chinese lion, dragon and unicorn parade through the main streets of the Chinese community.

The opening this month of a nine-month exhibition at World Museum Liverpool, featuring the famous Terracotta Warriors, is attracting tourists from across the country to the port city to soak up Chinese culture.
