Indonesia's N. Sumatra to host international GFNY cycling race

JAKARTA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's North Sumatra regency of Samosir will be the nation's fourth place to host international Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) cycling race slated for September this year, the race organizer said here Saturday.

The organizer said that the event had already secured full supports from the regency administrator, particularly on the race route security with route test event would be conducted in April.

"Coordination and tasks to assure the route security were our main task at present. Those who are interested in the route test race can register themselves to take part in the event," co-organizer of 2018 GFNY Samosir Tenne Permatasari said.

Given its location, which is surrounded by the province's great lake of Toba, GFNY Indonesia co-founder Axel Moeller who was at presence in the session said the race in Samosir would offer extraordinary wonderful experience for the cyclists.

"Riding in Samosir is riding in paradise," he illustrated the beauty of nature views along the route in Samosir.

Meanwhile, Samosir Regent Rapidon Simbolon said that his regency would support the route security, traditional attractions that comprised of performances of traditional dances for the participants of the race as well as buffet foods for them.

The 2018 GFNY Samosir would serve as 2018 GFNY Asia Championship race.

The previous GFNY in Indonesia were held in 2016 and 2017 in Lombok, of which the latter also served as 2017 GFNY Asia Championship.

The third GFNY hosted by Indonesia was recently held in Bali earlier this month, participated by over 1,400 cyclists from 32 countries and regions.
