NAIROBI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's ministry of energy will in mid June host the fifth edition of the East Africa Oil and Gas Summit (EAOGS 2018) in Nairobi amid rising investor appetite in this nascent sector across the region, the organizers said on Monday.

According to Global Event Partners, over 500 senior oil and gas executives will be joined by senior policymakers, regulators and experts to explore new opportunities in the region's oil and gas sector during the two-day summit.

"The renowned event, which is the largest of its kind in East Africa and is officially endorsed by the ministry of energy and petroleum in Kenya, will once again provide the platform for ministers and national oil companies to engage with international and local companies and investors, to examine the hugely significant opportunities present across the region," the organization said.

Kenya has hosted regional oil and gas summits in the past and organizers expect the June event to expose investors to emerging opportunities in the sector across the region.

"The 2018 program places Nairobi at the hub of the industry for East Africa and will examine the key topics that affect the rapidly advancing oil and gas industry throughout East Africa," it said.

The organization revealed that besides key note speeches by ministers, the summit will also discuss a range of topics like latest exploration updates, engaging the communities, emerging markets and attracting finance.

Likewise, the 2018 regional oil and gas summit will provide a networking opportunity for investors, service providers and clients.

Charles Kahuthu, Regional Coordinator and CEO of the East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and co-organizer of the summit, noted it will take place against a backdrop of concerted efforts to revitalize oil and gas sectors in the region.

"The timing of EAOGS 2018 is crucial for the sector; the industry is ready to move forward-with a strong government in place. A recovering oil price, infrastructure, pipeline and refinery plans all moving forward," said Kahuthu.

"There has never been a better time to get involved and be right at the forefront to discussions focused on the opportunities for the industry in this region," he added.
