Canadian stock market surging

TORONTO, Feb.21 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index jumped Wednesday due to increasing share of financials and industrials.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index soared 84.57 points, or 0.55 percent, to close the day at 15,524.01, highest since Feb. 2.

There were 182 advancing issues and 53 decliners while 15 were flat.

The Canadian dollar dropped 0.25 cents to 0.78.81 U.S. dollar.

Western shares added 1.3 percent to 2.82 Canadian dollars and Conifex Timber rose 6.1 percent to 6.62 Canadian dollars.

Power Financial gained 1.4 percent to 33.44 Canadian dollars.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce advanced 1.4 percent 116.49 Canadian dollars.

BCE advanced 31 cents to 56.11 Canadian dollars while Rogers Communications was up one percent to 58.26 Canadian dollars.

Canopy Growth fell 2.9 percent to 28.74 Canadian dollars while Neovasc lost 1.5 percent, to 0.33 Canadian dollars.
