Kenyan bourse flat amid political truce

NAIROBI, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) was flat on Friday as the Kenyan president and opposition met to break a political stalemate.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga addressed a joint press conference on Friday, saying they would work to unite the country.

Turnover stood at 9.8 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 30 million shares, from 9.9 million dollars on a volume of 29 million shares on Thursday.

The NSE 20 Share Index rose marginally to 3,720.21, from Thursday's 3,719.86, while the NSE All Share Index (NASI) stood at 180.60 points, down from 181.27. The NSE 25 index fell to 4609.43, from 4,614.33.

Safaricom moved 18.7 million shares to end as the top traded stock, followed by Cooperative Bank, Barclays Bank, Equity Bank and Kenya Commercial Bank, which moved around 2.1 million, 2 million, 1.4 million, and 986,900 shares respectively.

Market capitalization, which measures shareholders' wealth, was also unmoved, staying at 26.2 billion dollars. Enditem
