RIO DE JANEIRO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Six-time Brazilian Serie A champions Sao Paulo have sacked manager Dorival Junior following the club's miserable start to the season.

The 55-year-old was told of his dismissal on Friday morning, just hours after the club's 2-0 loss to local rivals Palmeiras in the Sao Paulo state championship.

Assistant coach Andrew Jardine will fill the role on an interim basis, Sao Paulo officials said.

Dorival guided the Tricolor to 17 wins, 11 draws and 12 defeats after replacing the club's legendary goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni in the head coaching position last July.

Sao Paulo have now sacked six managers in less than three years.

Former Brazil and Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is among the favorites to assume the vacant job. Enditem
