AMMAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday urged intensified efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, state-run Petra news agency reported.
The call was made by Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in their meeting in the capital Amman.
Peace talks should lead to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, they noted.
The two ministers warned against continued unilateral Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution and seek to impose new realities, especially in the disputed holy city Jerusalem.
On the issue of Syria, the two sides agreed that there was no military solution to the crisis and called for more efforts to reach a political solution that preserves the unity and territorial integrity of the country.
They underlined the need for the immediate implementation of the UN decision on the cease-fire in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.
Discussions also covered the presence of mass Syrian refugees in Jordan and resulting pressure on the kingdom.
For his part, Al Nahyan highlighted Jordan's key role in regional stability, saying his country is interested in increasing cooperation with Jordan in various areas.
Also in the day, King Abdullah II of Jordan met with the UAE official and discussed bilateral ties and latest developments in the region.
