UNITED NATIONS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday the UN chief had no comment on U.S. President Donald Trump's ouster of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson but "looks forward to a positive relationship with the successor."

"The secretary-general has spoken by phone and met with Secretary of State Tillerson a number of times," said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman. "I think he appreciated the relationship he has built with Mr. Tillerson during his time in office."

"I think they had a very good, positive relationship and I think the secretary-general wishes Mr. Tillerson well and of course looks forward to a positive relationship with the successor to Mr. Tillerson," Dujarric said.

Director of Central Intelligence Agency, Mike Pompeo, was appointed by Trump to replace Tillerson on Tuesday.

Tillerson, former chief executive of the Exxon Mobil oil giant, had been at odds with Trump almost from the beginning of his nearly 14-month tenure. But Trump said Tuesday he and his new appointee, still to be confirmed in the job, had hit it off from the beginning of their relationship in the White House.
