Israel's fertility rate stands at 3.11 children per woman

JERUSALEM, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The overall fertility rate of Israelis was 3.11 children per woman in 2016, according to the statistics issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel, Israeli media reported Wednesday.

The figure was much higher than any other member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the report said..

The OECD average is about 1.7 children per woman, and the second highest fertility rate among the OECD members is Mexico with about 2.2.

Statistics showed that 181,405 babies were born in Israel in 2016, an increase of 92 percent compared with the year of 1980.

Statistics also reported that the average age at which Israeli women have their first child has increased by a year and five months since the year 2000, and the average age in 2016 was 30.4.
