SEOUL, March 15 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's exports of the information and communications technology (ICT) product kept a record-braking trend for 13 months to February due mainly to robust outbound shipment of semiconductors, a government report showed Thursday.

The ICT exports amounted to 15.73 billion U.S. dollars in February, up 12 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The country's exports in the ICT industry continued to hit a new high compared with the figures tallied a year ago. The trend lasted for the past 13 months since February 2017.

Strong demand for locally-made semiconductors led the record-breaking trend. Chip exports jumped 40.8 percent over the year to 9.15 billion U.S. dollars last month.

Outbound shipment of computers and peripherals kept rising for the 11th consecutive month, but the display panel shipment posted a double-digit decline amid stiffer competition and lower product prices.

Mobile phone export tumbled 32.9 percent as local companies increased production in overseas factories, especially in Vietnam.

Import in the ICT sector stood at 7.81 billion U.S. dollars in February, sending the ICT trade surplus to 7.92 billion U.S. dollars.
