JERUSALEM, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Israel shelled Hamas posts in the Gaza Strip on Thursday morning after explosive devices were detonated near the fence separating Israel and the besieged Palestinian enclave.

A spokesperson with the Israeli military said there were no injuries from the explosion.

No organization has assumed responsibility for the attack. However, Israel usually retaliates by attacking the Hamas movement, maintaining that Hamas should be held accountable for any hostility.

Hamas took over control of Gaza in 2007 from the Palestinian National Authority and has ruled the enclave ever since.

Israel has imposed a strict blockade on Gaza that is home to more than two million people in the past 10 years and launched three large-scale military operations against Hamas.

The incident came two days after a bomb went off near the convoy of Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah during a rare visit to Gaza. The blast occurred shortly after the convoy entered Gaza, but no injuries were reported.
