DOHA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Leading Qatari defense company Barzan Holdings signed a number of agreements with some major international defense companies on military empowering, Qatari local media reported Thursday.

The agreements came on the sidelines of Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2018), reported Gulf Times.

Barzan holding, the largest exhibitor at DIMDEX 2018, signed a total of 24 agreements with international partners including the United States and Turkey.

Rheinmetall Barzan Advanced Technologies, which is Barzan Holdings' joint venture with German defense company Rheinmetall AG, signed four agreements, aiming to build an ammunition production plant in Qatar.

Earlier, the Qatari company has signed another deal with Italian company Beretta Holding to supply rifles to Qatar.

The signing ceremony of the Italian deal was attended by the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and the Italian Minister of Defence Roberta Pinotti.

"The agreement with Beretta Holding represents a strategic deal between Qatar and Italy, and is firmly in line with Barzan Holdings' objective of meeting Qatar's long-term defense and security needs," said Barzan Holdings managing director Nasser al-Naimi.

Al-Naimi added that the Italian deal would empower the capabilities of the Qatar Armed Forces.
