Yunnan takes four gold medals at national cross country championships

GUIYANG, China, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Yunnan province took home four gold medals at the National Cross Country Championships held in Qingzhen, Guiyang on Thursday and Friday.

After two days of competition, Yunnan became the biggest winner, taking four gold medals from 10 races. Peng Jianqi finished in 26 minutes and 3 seconds to win the championship in the junior men's 8km race, while Dong Guojian clocked a time of 38:21 to rank first in the senior men's 12km race.

Zhang Deshun, who harvested two gold medals by herself, topped the senior women's 4km race and the senior women's 8km race, with a time of 13:25, and a time of 27:54 respectively.

Shandong won three gold medals with Xu Wenhao, topping out in the teen men's 6km race, with a time of 19:27, and Zhao Yanli sealing victory in both the junior women's 4km race and the junior women's 6km race, with a time of 13:56 and 21:30 respectively.

The other three races were won by Liaoning, Jiangxi and the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The national cross country championships, organized by the Athletics Administrative Center under the General Administration of Sport of China, have been held in Guizhou for sixteen consecutive years.
