Uganda names team for 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers

KAMPALA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has named the squad for the 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Head coach of the Crested Cranes, Faridah Bulega named the team on Tuesday morning ahead of the first round qualifier against Kenya.

Kenya will host Uganda in the first leg on April 4 at the Machakos Stadium before the return leg on April 8 at the StarTimes Stadium in Kampala.

"We need to prepare well in the remaining few days because we are going to face a strong Kenyan side," Bulega told Xinhua on Tuesday.

In 2016 Kenya was runner-up to Tanzania in the CECAFA Women's Championship hosted in the Ugandan town of Jinja.

The team that qualifies after both legs will meet Equatorial Guinea in the final qualification round. The 2018 edition of the tournament will be held in Ghana from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1.

Edgar Watson, the CEO of the Uganda FA said the tournament will also double as the qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup where the top three teams will qualify.
