Macao's visitor arrivals reach more than 3 mln in February

MACAO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Macao's visitor arrivals reached more than 3 million in February this year, the highest figure since August 2014, attributed to the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistic department said here on Friday.

Latest data issued from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals reached 3,070,937 in February, up by 12.0 percent month-to-month and up by 23.1 percent year-on-year.

Overnight visitors (1,396,068) and same-day visitors (1,674,869) went up by 13.3 percent and 32.6 percent respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of overnight visitors held stable year-on-year at 2.2 days, while that of same-day visitors rose by 0.1 day to 0.3 day.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland surged by 37.3 percent year-on-year to 2,286,989 in February, while those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme soared by 57.9 percent to 1,403,954, setting a new single-month record since the implementation of the scheme in July 2003.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland came primarily from Guangdong, Zhejiang and Shanghai.

Visitors from Hong Kong SAR (501,753) inched up by 0.1 percent year-on-year, while those from China's Taiwan region (79,670) dropped by 8.4 percent.

Visitors from South Korea (71,633) dropped by 13.4 percent. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States, Canada and Britain registered increases, whereas those from Australia decreased.
