AMMAN, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Palestine on Wednesday stressed commitment to continued efforts to attain desired peace, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The remarks were made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization at a meeting in Amman.
They had looked into latest efforts to end the stalemate in peace talks and efforts related to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli peace conflict, the report said.
The meeting comes ahead of the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia next month, where discussions will focus on the Palestinian issue.
The two sides said efforts will continue to achieve lasting peace in line with the two-state solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with east Jerusalem as its capital, which they stressed as the sole way to achieve peace.
While making efforts to re-launch peace talks, the two sides said Jordan and Palestine will continue coordination in all fronts to realize the Palestinians' aspirations for statehood.
They also said it was key to coordinate efforts with the Arab states and the international community to stand up to the consequences that emerged following a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Safadi stressed on Jordan's continued support to the Palestinian Authority to achieve the rights of the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian official voiced appreciation for Jordan's support and efforts in defending the holy sites in Jerusalem and enhancing the steadfastness of the Palestinians in the face of continued Israeli violations.
