AMMAN, April 2 (Xinhua) -- An international conference on financial technology started in Jordan Monday with the participation of more than 100 policymakers and regulators from around the globe.

Titled the Financial Technology (FinTech) Policy Forum, which was organized by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), the event focused on highlighting evolving regulatory models and latest developments in the field of financial technology.

In a speech at the opening ceremony, CBJ Governor Ziad Fariz announced the launching of the bank's new "regulatory sandbox," which is a safe space where businesses can test innovative products and technologies in the field of financial technology.

Fariz stressed that financial technology can help achieve financial inclusion, which is an issue that Jordan is heavily focusing on.

Discussions covered latest technologies including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchains and digital identities, among other related issues.

The forum, which will run until April 6, will shed light on topics such as regulating innovations, proliferation of digital credit and regulatory implications, among other issues.

The event was held as part of the Financial Inclusion Initiative for the Arab Region (FIARI) launched by the Arab Monetary Fund, the Deutsche für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and AFI at the 2017 Global Policy Forum in Egypt.
