Indian actor Anupam Kher nominated for BAFTA award

NEW DELHI, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has been nominated for a major international award - the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, (BAFTA), officials said Wednesday.

The 63-year-old Kher is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC TV movie - The Boy With The Topknot.

"Thank you for the nomination. I feel honored and humbled," Kher wrote on twitter.

The Boy With The Topknot is based on the memoir of British Sikh Sathnam Sanghera, a retelling of his family history, of growing up in Wolverhampton, and of his discovery that his father and older sister were schizophrenic.

The BAFTA Television Awards will be held on May 13.

Kher is chairman of India's prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Kher has appeared in over 500 Indian and international films and is recipient of several awards.

The veteran star has won many national and international awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role five times. He has appeared in acclaimed international films such as the 2002 Golden Globe nominated Bend It Like Beckham, 2007 Golden Lion award-winning Lust, Caution and 2013 Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.
