Insider attack claims 2 lives in Afghan police checkpoint

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Two police were killed and two others injured as a Taliban sleeper agent who disguised himself as police at a checkpoint in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province opened fire on those in duty early Monday, a local official said.

"A Taliban loyalist who disguised himself as police and served in a checkpoint in Dasht Archi district, opened fire on those in duty early today morning killing two policemen and injuring two others," district governor Nasirudin Nazari Saadi told Xinhua.

The official also confirmed that the attacker made his good escape.

Meantime, Taliban purported spokesman Zabihullah Majahid in contact with media has confirmed the incident and claimed that the infiltrated man after killing four policemen rejoined the Taliban militants with four pieces of Kalashnikov assault rifles.
