URUMQI, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Xinjiang Meteorological authorities Wednesday warned of possible geological disasters as heavy wind and rain is expected in the region.
The regional meteorological center forecast heavy rain and snow in the northern and eastern parts of Xinjiang from Wednesday, with snow to hit mountainous regions in Urumqi and Hami City.
Heavy wind or sandstorm are expected in the southern parts of the autonomous region, with an average temperature drop of 5 degrees Centigrade, according to the center.
The center warned of risks of geological disasters. People in rain-affected areas should take precautions against possible mountain torrents and mud-rock flows, it warned.
