DOHA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar, resumed its services to two major Iraqi cities Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, local media reported Wednesday.

Direct flights to the two Iraqi destinations were suspended in November 2017 at a request from Iraqi authorities to all international carriers, Qatar's English newspaper Gulf Times said.

"We are pleased to relaunch our service to both destinations, offering our passengers again a multitude of choices within the Republic of Iraq," said Akbar al-Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways is currently serving five routes to Iraq with seven flights a week to each destination, namely the capital Baghdad, Najaf, Basra, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
