Kenyan bourse blue-chip index closes week down

NAIROBI, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) benchmark index declined on Friday to close the week lower, pulled down by drop in various stock prices as others remained flat.

The NSE 20 Share Index ended Friday at 3,805.23 points, which was a decline of 15.03 points as it sustained a downward trend from Thursday.

Some of the stocks that pushed it down were Britam, British American Tobacco, Centum and Safaricom, which went down by between 0.8 percent and 3.5 percent.

The most traded stocks were Barclays Bank, Equity Bank, Safaricom, Kenya Commercial Bank and Safaricom which transacted 10.2 million shares, 7 million shares, 3 million shares, 1.4 million shares and 732.200 shares respectively.

The number of shares traded stood at over 25 million up from 17 million shares worth 7.6 million U.S. dollars on Thursday. Enditem
