NAIROBI, April 16 (Xinhua) -- World and Commonwealth Games 1,500m champion Elijah Manangoi, silver medalist Timothy Cheruiyot and Olympic 800m winner David Rudisha will be among a galaxy of stars at this year's Shanghai Diamond League meeting in China on May 12.

Manangoi, who captained Kenya's team to the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, winning gold in the 1,500m distance, will not rest on his laurels with compatriot Cheruiyot, the Diamond League winner in 2017, eyeing to topple him off the throne.

"I start my 1,500m Diamond League season in Shanghai. Of course it is a great pleasure to return to China to launch my outdoor season and will be aiming for the Diamond League trophy again," said Cheruiyot, who won last season's title in Zurich.

World record holder Rudisha will hope to make it third time lucky in the men's 800m after finishing fifth on his Shanghai debut in 2016 and third last year, while fellow Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot begins the defence of his Diamond League trophy in the 1500m.
