Kenyan bourse indices slip further as stocks tumble

NAIROBI, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Key indices on Kenya's Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) shed more points on Tuesday as stocks continued to tumble across the board.

The indicative NSE 20 Share Index declined 30.73 pints on Tuesday to end at 3,770.92, down from Monday's 3,801.65. The index had slipped 5 points on Monday and 15.03 points on Friday last week.

Similarly, the Nairobi All Share Index (NASI) fell to 186.85 points, down from 189.67 of Monday and 191.35 at the end of last week. The 25-share index, on the other hand, went down by 60.92 points, closing at 4,856.92, on Tuesday.

However, the turnover and volume of shares traded increased, with the latter by 47 percent. Equity turnover stood at 6.7 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 22.2 million shares, compared with 5.5 million dollars from 17 million shares posted on Monday.

The most-traded stocks were Safaricom (11.8 million shares), Cooperative Bank (2.7 million), Equity Bank (1.6 million), Barclays Bank (1.4million), and Kenya Commercial Bank 1.3 million).

Bond turnover rose marginally to 24 million dollars, up from 20 million dollars of Monday. Enditem
