Afghan battle leaves 10 dead including 6 militants in eastern Ghazni province

GHAZNI, Afghanistan, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Ten people including six militants and four police were killed as clash erupted between Taliban and security forces in Jaghato district of Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Tuesday, spokesman for provincial government Aref Nuri said.

The Taliban insurgents, according to the official, attacked security checkpoints in Qayaq village of Jaghato district at 05:30 a.m. local time, triggering heavy gun battle.

Six militants including their commander Qari Sanai were killed and two others injured.

Four police have lost their lives and three others injured in the fighting, the official said.

Security forces have been pursuing the militants to ensure lasting peace in the district and adjoining areas, the official asserted.

Taliban militants are yet to make comment.
