Tokyo stocks open lower on concern after Trump withdraws U.S. from Iran nuke deal

TOKYO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors were concerned after U.S. President Donald Trump's unilateral decision to withdraw the United States from the Iran nuclear deal.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 83.95 points, or 0.37 percent, from Tuesday to 22,424.74.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 7.34 points, or 0.41 percent, at 1,772.48.

Pharmaceutical, precision instrument and electric power and gas-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
