CAIRO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Arab League's (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called on Wednesday for an urgent review on the Iran nuclear deal, AL said in a statement.

"There is an urgent need to review the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, signed between Iran and international powers to watch Teheran's nuclear performance," said the statement.

The nuclear deal reached in 2015 has only tackled the nuclear side in the Iranian practices, which was not the sole element that should have been watched, the statement said.

It added that other policies that lead to instability of the region should also be followed up.

"Iran has to reconsider seriously its behavior in the Arab region if it wanted to establish real good relations with its Arab neighbors," it reiterated.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United State would "exit the Iran deal," and warned that "any nation that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could be strongly sanctioned."

Leaders of Britain, France and Germany, who are also signatories of the JCPOA, issued a statement soon after Trump's declaration expressing their "regret and concern" and emphasising their "continuing commitment" to the deal.
