DAMASCUS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Ten Israeli military positions in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights were targeted overnight Wednesday by rocket fire at a time when Israel hit Syrian positions in the southern province of Qunaitera amid heightened tension, according to the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV.

The targeted Israeli military sites include a military reconnaissance center, a position for border security, a military center for electronic jamming, a military center for spying on wireless and wired networks, a communication station, an observatory for precision weapons, a gunships heliport, the headquarters of the regional military command of brigade-810, the command center of the military battalion in Hermon, and the winter headquarters of the special snow unit, according to the report.

No party claimed responsibility for the attack, but Israel accused Iran of firing the rockets.

The incident came as Israel fired rockets on a military position in al-Baath City and Khan Arnabeh in Syria's southern Qunaitera province near the Golan Heights.

The Syrian state TV said no losses were reported from the Israeli strike on Qunaitera while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli shelling targeted military positions of Syria and its allies near al-Baath.

The tension came a day after Israel targeted a Syrian military site in the Kisweh area in the southwestern countryside of the capital Damascus. Activists said 15 people were killed, including eight Iranians.

Last month, the Israelis targeted two military sites in Syria where Iranian fighters were located, including the T-4 airbase in central Syria.

The Israeli attack came amid heightened tension with Iran, following Israeli attack last month on Syrian positions where Iranian military experts were located. It also followed the U.S. announcement of withdrawal from the international nuclear deal with Iran.
