Lebanon releases official elections results

BEIRUT, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's Interior Ministry released Thursday data of all the results from Lebanon's first parliamentary elections in nine years, which is held on May 6.

The Hezbollah militant party retained its 13 seats at the new parliament, while the Amal Movement of Speaker Nabih berri managed to increase its share to 17 MPs.

The Free Patriotic Movement of Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil obtained 29 seats while the Future Movement of Prime Minister Saad Hariri lost 14 MPs and stood at 21 MPs in the new parliament.

The Lebanese Forces of Samir Geagea were considered the biggest winner of the elections as it managed to increase its share from 6 MPs to 16 in the new parliament.

The Progressive Socialist Party of MP Walid Jumblatt maintained its 9 seats while the Kataeb of MP Sami Gemayel stood at 3, and so did the Marada Movement of former Presidential candidate MP Suleiman Franjieh.

Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati returned to the parliament with 4 MPs and the Syrian Social National Party obtained 3 seats.

There are 13 elected MPs who are considered to be independent as they are not affiliated with any party.

The results of the elections stem from 6,793 ballot boxes in Lebanon and 232 from expatriate voting. The results include the votes obtained by each electoral list and each individual candidate in all of Lebanon's 15 districts.

The 128-seat parliament maintain a term of four years.
